WWE Files Interesting Retro Trademark Application
WWE is looking to its past with this new trademark application.
WWE has filed a new trademark application for its old "scratch" logo (the one shown above) with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
The mark is listed as "WW" on the USPTO's database, with the application filed for the following purpose:-
IC 024. US 042 050. G & S: Bed blankets, bed linens, comforters, quilts, bed sheets, bedspreads, curtains, draperies, pillow cases, bath linen, towels of textile; woven fabrics; hooded towels; sleeping bags
Filed with attorney Lauren A. Dienes-Middlen on 3 March, the application describes the logo as follows:-
26.17.13 - Letters or words underlined and/or overlined by one or more strokes or lines ; Overlined words or letters ; Underlined words or letters
The scratch logo's originals stretch back to the Attitude Era's heyday. Introduced in 1997, it survived through the then-World Wrestling Federation's legal issues with the World Wildlife Foundation, which forced Vince McMahon to change his company's name to World Wrestling Entertainment. Rather than going for a full-on logo switch, WWE chopped the "F" extensions from the previous design.
WWE stuck with the logo until 2014, when it was replaced with a cleaner design.
Going by the application, it seems that if you're desperate for a line of bed linen featuring an old wrestling logo, you're in luck.
