Then: Nobody had much of a clue how 'Y2J' went from having one of the most over gimmicks (his 'List Of Jericho') in 2017 to being on the outskirts of WWE in 2018. Backstage, Chris Jericho was starting to look elsewhere for his wrestling kicks. He'd already sold Vince McMahon on some New Japan excursions early in the year before signing on to take part in the Greatest Royal Rumble.

Bouts vs. Kenny Omega, Tetsuya Naito and EVIL were a million miles away from the 3 minute stint he spent in the ring over in Saudi Arabia. Jericho was just another victim of Braun Strowman, then he left WWE to focus on other things. By 2019, Jericho was a key component in the formation and announcement of AEW.

He didn't look back until recently.

Now: Jericho's AEW future is shrouded in mystery. Tony Khan has made it clear he'd like to do more business with one of his veteran stars, but Chris has been outspoken about the quality of recent All Elite output. He even put TNA's product above AEW's, which can't have gone down well with Khan or others.

Rumours abound that Jericho will soon return to WWE. Most fans have him pencilled in for a comeback at the 2026 Royal Rumble. That'd almost certainly be followed by a WWE Hall Of Fame induction and possibly a few other blockbuster matches. Hardcore AEW fans have been sick of Jericho for years now, so this is probs the best outcome for everyone.

If it happens, of course. Nothing is guaranteed.
