Ric Flair told talkSPORT that Vince McMahon tore him to pieces backstage mere minutes before shooting a promo on Raw.
The WWE boss hauled the legend to one side following his match with Jeff Hardy and told him that he needed to start leading by example instead of battling his own self-confidence. McMahon wanted Flair to be a pillar of strength in front of younger stars, but Ric was tortured by crippling self-doubts towards the end of his full-time career.
This face-to-face happened minutes before Flair then tore strips off Carlito during a memorable promo on the 5 February 2007 episode of Raw - the 'Nature Boy' admits that he said many of the same things to Carlito that McMahon had said to him.

McMahon did tell Flair that he'd take care of him in the long run, but that he needed him to get his sh*t together in front of the locker room. It wasn't doing anyone any good if the legend was moping around the place.
Ric admitted that he was "average at best" in-ring during that portion of his career.
