WWE Night Of Champions 2025: 8 Things That Must Happen

4. Cody Rhodes Becomes King

WWE must let the head rule the heart this weekend.

Not many reading this would be mad if the promotion gifted Randy Orton one remaining accolade he’s never managed by crowning him King Of The Ring. After all, he was semi-screwed over during last year's final vs. Gunther, and that's something the likes of Wade Barrett and Michael Cole have been talking about on commentary. That's option one.

Option two is the one WWE will almost certainly go with. Cody Rhodes becoming the new king is the right call here, because then he can roll onto SummerSlam for another title match opposite John Cena. They can even bring that up post-win but pre-title bout by asking if he'll end up facing CM Punk in New Jersey this August instead. Punk and Cody did share a short segment on TV recently to drop hints about that being a long term goal for the creative squad.

Pardon the wordplay, but winning KOTR should be part of Cody's legacy more than Randy's. Besides, part of the sell job for Orton vs. Cena was that Mr. RKO couldn't challenge for the belt again so long as John was champ. The reigning champion made that power play announcement after coming out victorious.

That's why Rhodes makes more sense. He has unfinished business with Cena stemming from what happened at Elimination Chamber in March and at WrestleMania 41 in April. WWE was always going to program a rematch between them before John called it a career, so Randy winning would come completely out of the blue and be a major shock.

Nah, 'King' Cody is heading to MetLife for another whirl with the GOAT.
