WWE Raw: 10 Things You Might Have Missed (May 16)

1. At Least It Was Better Than Last Time

The main event segment of the go-home Raw for Extreme Rules was a contract signing... between Charlotte and Natalya, making their WWE Women's Title match official. Considering how hot the fans are for the Roman Reigns-AJ Styles program, this was an odd way to close the show. It wasn't without precedent, though.

Last November, the go-home Raw for Survivor Series ended with a contract signing between Charlotte and Paige. There was an ulterior motive - just two days before, Holly Holm defeated Ronda Rousey for the UFC Women's Bantamweight Title, and WWE tried (and failed) to capitalize on the frenzy surrounding women's fighting. That angle turned out to be one of the worst in years, as Paige made insulting reference to Charlotte's deceased brother, Reid.

This time, there was also an extenuating circumstance - Raw was in Greensboro. The angle turned into a mess - Charlotte cut a promo where she said the fans would never boo her, then acknowledged that they were booing her; Charlotte and Natalya ended up playing second fiddle to the McMahons - but as no prematurely deceased wrestlers were defamed, it still was better than last time.
