WWE Signs 7 Athletes From China
The company continues to bring in new talent from around the globe.
WWE is looking to rapidly expand into China, as the country is a largely untapped market for professional wrestling. On Saturday in Shanghai, Bin Wang, the first Chinese wrestler the company has ever signed, will make his debut against Bo Dallas.
Along with that, WWE has signed seven other hopefuls from the tryouts they held in June. Here are the names they'll be bringing in:
Big Boa: At 6-foot-4, he'll likely catch the eye of Vince McMahon. Along with his size, he's also a Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion.
Gu Guangming: He out "bigs" Big Boa by quite a bit, as he's 6-foot-8, and nearly 300 lbs. He also has some athletic credibility to his name, as he was an amateur boxer, and won the National Men's Championship in 2014.
Gao Lei: He weighs in at over 300 pounds, but is under six feet tall, which gives him a bit of a unique look. He also has some experience as an amateur wrestler.
Zhao Xia: She's the only woman hired among the seven, but she is crazy athletic with a host of martial arts and fitness competition wins under her belt.
Wang Xiaolong: He's a dancer, a basketball player and he studied at Beijing Contemporary Music Academy.
Yifeng: He comes to the wrestling world with a strong theater background, which could help him from a character standpoint in developmental. He was in the movie Lady and Tiger.
Cheng Yuxiang: WWE lists him as "an expert-level fitness trainer", who is also a boxer.

While it's impossible to say right now how any of these individuals will perform in WWE, it's a smart (and long overdue) business decision to bring in some Chinese wrestlers. They're from the most populated country on Earth, so you can only imagine how many potential fans WWE can bring into the fold if they find a couple of superstars to give a big push to.
