Finally giving in to the pleas of James Ellsworth (and the live crowd), Dean Ambrose agreed to let his on screen friend act as a sidekick for SmackDown's main event. Had Ambrose beaten AJ Styles, he would have earned a crack at the WWE World Title.

In the end, that wasn't the planned result. Ambrose lost the bout via disqualification when Ellsworth hit AJ with a Superkick. Long before that, Dean almost lost consciousness upon suffering a quite brutal bump on the ring apron. Incredibly, it's a good thing that Ambrose even made contact with the hardest part of the ring.

A Snap Suplex performed by Styles outside the ropes almost had dire consequences for his opponent. Tumbling over, Ambrose barely glanced the ring apron before falling to the floor in dangerous fashion. Thankfully, the babyface was unharmed and able to continue the match as scheduled.

Things could have went badly wrong though, only a few centimetres over and Ambrose would have likely missed his landing spot entirely.
