WWE WrestleMania 41: 20 Things That Must Happen

17. El Grande Americano Stuns Rey Mysterio

Chad Gable's masked lucha star gimmick will only be around for a cup of coffee. OK, sorry, that was terrible. Comedic character work or not, his match vs. Rey Mysterio will be brew-tiful. Right, that's plenty. Don't want to milk the crap coffee puns any longer or certain readers will roast this on socials. Oops.

Seriously though, enough.

El Grande Americano vs. Rey-Rey wasn't on many predictions lists for 'Mania at the turn of the year. If somebody had said, 'Chad Gable is going under a mask as a lucha knock off and working Mysterio in Vegas', they'd have been laughed out of the room and told to hang out with those losers in Alpha Academy. Internally, Chad will be buzzing at what he's been handed here.

It'd be a lie to claim this is the most important match on the Saturday night card, but...what an opportunity for Gable to showcase what he's bloody great at against one of the best to ever lace up a pair of boots. Ideally, it'll be Americano who comes out on top here before Chad tears off the mask and starts celebrating like he's Kurt Angle in 1996.

Man just beat Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania with a broken freakin' mask. If you can't get giddy about that, then when can you? Being honest, Mysterio doesn't need to win many matches at this point in his career. It'd be lovely if he agreed to put Gable's gimmick over and let the hardworking pro simmer into something special over the summer months.
