6. Steve Austin Saves WWE From The Alliance In 2001
http://youtu.be/YDOhuHgCGhQ When the WWE was invaded by WCW & ECW wrestlers in the summer of 2001 leading to a huge match at their July PPV, Vince McMahon pleaded with Steve Austin that he needed the "old" Stone Cold back. In other words, he needed the ass kicking badass that was tough for anybody to slow down. He didn't want Austin to sing songs on a guitar or do silly stuff like that. He needed the fighting Austin to return. Prior to that, Austin was working as a heel that had joined Vince on the "dark side" so to speak. They really did a great job of putting over the importance of Austin helping the WWE guys out because up to that point, it looked like WWE had no chance of winning. When the fight broke out at the end of Raw prior to Invasion, it was mayhem. Then Austin showed up, fought with the WWE guys and the crowd went wild for it. They totally bought into Austin as a babyface again. It didn't last that long, but they sure believed in it. The only reason it's not higher on the list is because Austin ended up turning heel again on the WWE guys. Does it even count as a turn? Yes, barely. It was a temporary turn that was too good to ignore.
