DC Comics

Action Comics #1 is the book that started it all. To be fair, this wasn't the first book DC published, but it is the one that remains the most important due to its introduction of a character who would become synonymous with DC: Superman.

The first appearance of Superman was certainly a historic event, which was illustrated in this iconic cover by Joe Shuster. This book launched superheroes in comic book form and effectively established the industry. Not only was it important for DC, it is the most valuable comic book in the world.

A single issue once sold on eBay for $3.2 million (£2.4 million), which set the record for the most money ever paid for a single original copy of a comic book.

This iconic cover image has been recreated more times than any other and even saw a film reproduction in a scene from 2006's Superman Returns. Action Comics #1 is arguably the most important comic book ever published, which is why it easily tops the list of comic book covers DC wants you to remember!
