Everybody’s favourite vengeance demon Anya debuted in season three of the TV show. She was drawn to Sunnydale by Cordelia’s misery after being dumped by Xander and ostracised by her friends. Cordelia’s wish that Buffy had never come to Sunnydale was granted by Anya creating a bleak alternate reality. She became a beloved character with fans and a key member of The Scoobies.

Now:

Anya is already running the Magic Box as a thriving business prior to Buffy’s arrival. She soon indirectly causes trouble for Buffy and the gang, selling local vampires mystical jewellery that makes them immune to the sharp end of Buffy’s stake.

Anya, and her mystical relics, soon attract dark power. The Mistress ties her up for interrogation, but Anya stays stoic. Knowing she can’t torture the demon; The Mistress smashes the rare items Anya has curated. Anya is saved by vampire-hating bat-demon Camazotz, who the Mistress accidently unleashes.

Anya claims to be Switzerland, not choosing a side. However, she saves The Scoobies from the Hellmother’s army and leads them to underground safety, where they recoup before battle.
