3. It Was Moira All Along

House of X Moira
Marvel Comics/Pepe Larraz

Dr. Moira MacTaggert has been many things to the X-Men over the years. A skilled geneticist, second only to Charles Xavier and Hank McCoy, wife to Sean Cassidy, the X-Man Banshee, and surrogate mother to New Mutant Rahne Sinclair, Wolfbane. She has healed their wounds, given them a place to rest, and been an ally and friend. But recently it has been revealed that Moira is the most important mutant in existence.

Moira had the power of reincarnation and retention of all the knowledge from her previous lives. In her third life, she discovered a cure for the mutant gene but was killed by Mystique and Destiny. In her fourth and fifth lives, she embraced Charles Xavier, in her eighth she joined Magneto, and, in her ninth, Apocalypse but died each time. In each of her lives, she learned one secret: the Mutants always failed.

In her tenth and current life, she had been able to unite Xavier, Magneto, and Apocalypse with all the other mutants on the planet and create a nation for mutants named Krakoa, where all mutants are safe, and most, but not all, old arguments have been forgotten. Moira has been kept hidden and no one with precognition powers was allowed to be resurrected lest they discover her secret. This failed when Destiny was resurrected and she was forced to flee.
