When Ted Castle deduced the planet would become uninhabitable in the near future, he and a group of billionaires funded a program to build a replica of Earth that humanity could migrate to.

Years later, Castle's partner, Alyssa, tried to hire Reed Richards to work on this manmade planet, Nu-World, to prepare for the inevitable evacuation of Earth. At first, Reed dismissed Alyssa's claims, saying he would find a way to save the world. But after triple-checking her findings, he realised the planet would be dead in 30 years. Using his own scientific acumen, Reed ensured Nu-World was ready to be boarded by humanity in the next decade or two.

But only a few months after Nu-World was completed, Galactus discovered it. Worse still, the Devourer of Worlds was ravenous when he located the world and informed Reed that he was ready to consume it. Reed pleaded with Galactus, telling him that Nu-World was the only way to guarantee mankind's survival. Sadly, the purple-armoured entity was unmoved by Reed's pleas. Knowing that he couldn't stop Galactus, Reed stood helplessly by and watched the cosmic destroyer consume Nu-World's thermal energy before reducing the celestial body to ash.
