9. Green Lantern (DC Comics)
First of all, Green Lantern isn't just one character - that we all know - but this slot serves to represent any given individual Green Lantern who happens to be a part of the intergalactic law enforcement corps. Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Alan Scott, Kilowog, Jade, G'nort, Bzzd and Simon Baz - amongst others - all wield a copy of the very same willpower empowered ring that grants them a very wide array of special powers and abilities. Indeed, power rings are often referred to as "the most powerful weapons in the universe" (and, while this is an exaggeration, it emphasises just how dangerous and powerful they are as, in the right hands, there really is no upper limit to what they can potentially do). First and foremost, the ring, by default, grants the wearer an incredibly durable automatic forcefield. This is generally visually represented, when needed, by a green aura around the character in question and has been shown to protect even human wearers from bullets, the vacuum of space, black holes and super-powered punches from formidable opponents that have included Superman himself. The ring also grants flight abilities - including high-speed travel through space. Some Lanterns have even been known to travel faster than the speed of light. Power rings also act as highly advanced computers. For instance, they are able to talk to and advise the wearer as to various courses of action, as well as act as a universal translator. The ring can also scan for energy signatures or particular objects. For more intricate problems or problems that require a back logged history, the ring connects with the main power battery on Oa, which is the "main" computer of sorts. The rings also enable high-end energy manipulation and give the wearer ability to augment their own physical statistics (strength, for example). However, the Green Lantern's most well-known power is the ability to create extremely durable hard light constructs which are only limited by their imagination and willpower. These constructs can be as simple as a boxing glove or sword, or as intricate as fully-functional advanced alien technology. There are even more esoteric powers that have been demonstrated over the years, but so many of these have only occurred once that it would literally take all day to talk about them. Essentially, Green Lantern power rings are very, very versatile indeed.
