Green Goblin is, without doubt, Spider-Man's greatest nemesis. He's done the most damage to the wall-crawler over the years and has always featured heavily in every media incarnation, whether that be on film, or video games, or animation. He's basically The Joker to Spider-Man's Batman. And yet...that costume? Ugh. A pointy purple hat and booties? (Curse you, booties!) Scaly green skin? Pointy Spock ears? Eh? The funny thing about the Goblin is that it's not even like the movies or cartoons have been able to re-imagine the look any better. Willem Dafoe's outfit in the first Sam Raimi movie is, if possible, even worse than the comic book incarnation. It seems redundant now to insult it any more but it's very Power Rangers. James Franco's New Goblin in Spider-Man 3? Same suit, but with a pair of goggles instead of a mask. Lame. So when it came to Dane DeHaan's turn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we wondered if they'd worked out the kinks yet. Nope. Worst one yet. It's like they took the Franco design and said "Lose the goggles. But give me some green slimy goop." They should've just used the Ultimate Spider-Man design, where Norman Osborn transformed into a hulking Goblin monster. That was extremely cool. Oh well.
