In a complicated turn of events to have Thor banished from Asgard, Loki resurrects Odin’s father, Bor, on Earth. He then casts a spell on him that affects his perception- causing Bor to think that everyone around him is an enemy. This leads to him going on a rampage in the middle of a city.

Thor confronts Bor in the middle of this and tries to calm him down, after realizing that this man was an Asgardian. Regardless, though, Thor doesn’t hesitate to attack when Bor proceeds to rush him. An intense battle between them then ensues, which nearly culminates in the very destruction of the planet.

In the end, though, Thor kills Bor as a last-ditch effort to save the entire world from the full extent of Bor's godlike power. It isn't until after he has done this, however, that Thor finally realizes that this Asgardian was actually his grandfather, Bor. Loki is thus left victorious in his efforts when Thor is subsequently banished from Asgard for accidentally committing regicide.
