10 Comic Book Superheroes Who Created Their Own Worst Enemy
6. Mr. Fantastic And Doom
Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic unknowingly encountered his biggest rival, and one of the most dangerous humans in the Marvel Universe, while attending college with his best friend Ben Grimm. The pair encountered a young student named Victor Von Doom who was rash and full of insane, yet brilliant ideas.
Doom and Richards almost immediately became rivals in college, but when Doom created a device that supposedly would allow him to send his very soul through dimensions to reach hell and save his mother from Mephisto, the Marvel universe's version of Satan, Reed Richards tried to help him, by explaining how dangerous Doom's device was, and that there was a flaw in his calculations.
But Doom hated Reed Richards so much that he ignored his suggestions and turned the device on. The device immediately exploded, permanently scarring Doom's face and leading to his expulsion from the university.
Years later, Doom would reemerge as the all-powerful and diabolically evil Doctor Doom, sporting a metallic face and powers that could only be rivalled by the combined powers of the world's first superpowered family the Fantastic Four.
And thus Doctor Doom would continue to be a threat not only to Reed Richards but the entire multiverse, which culminated in Doom achieving ultimate power in Marvel's massive comic event the second Secret Wars.
