10 Darkest Alternate Comic Book Timelines‏

6. Injustice (DC)

Designation: None The comic book adaptation of the absolutely crackers DC fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us is how superheroes would act if they used their powers for all the messed-up, violent things we usually do in videogames. The Joker tricks Superman into killing Lois Lane, their unborn son and the rest of Metropolis in a nuclear explosion. Naturally, Superman is pretty peeved at this little prank. So he shoves his arm through Joker's chest and kills him. Things don't get any better from there. Since he's still kinda mad and power-crazed, Supes decides to establish himself as High Councillor, forming a new world order that he rules over. Batman's not so big on that, so he leads an insurgency against his old friend, and they go to war for five years. Five whole years! And this is a war that involves superpowers, so you know it manages to have an even higher casualty rate than normal wars. Which tend to be fairly high as it is. The game picks up the story from there, but that's probably enough bleakness for you to be getting on with for now. For some meta-textual darkness to this timeline, the Injustice comics are really, really awful and you shouldn't ever read them.
