With the original Secret Wars being such a well-loved story, when it came time for Marvel to revisit the concept, no-one really expected writer Jonathan Hickman to destroy literally everything that came before it.

Secret Wars marked the end of multiple realities and completely erased the effects of huge events in Marvel history, such as House of M, Age of Apocalypse and the Ultimates universe.

To do this, Marvel used incursions to merge various universes together, culminating in the final incursion between Earth-616 and Earth-1610. Realising the process cannot be stopped, efforts are turned to survival. Each earth's counterparts are pitted against each other, but neither would come out on top.

The final incursion marked the end of the Marvel Universe as we know it, all that was left was Battleworld. A mishmash of various universes laid out on one planet, which the survivors of the incursion would be forced to fight for their survival once more.

There are only a handful of heroes left and eventually, with the help of the Franklin Richards, they are able to create new universes to replace what was lost. Sadly, that leaves billions of innocent lives lost forever as life restarts without them.
