10 Famous Comics You Won't Believe Were Cancelled

4. Black Panther

X Men By Marcio Takara
Marvel Comics

Not only is Black Panther one of the first mainstream Black heroes - he's a king and the ruler of the world's most advanced country. Since T'Challa's mantle is passed down from one generation to another, his backstory and mythos goes back millennia. There is so much to explore, you'd assume the Panther King's own series would be an instant classic.

And a decade after his debut, the king of Wakanda finally received his own solo title. Tragically, it was over and done with after 15 issues!

Any Black Panther reader will tell you that T'Challa's stories have always worked best when sticking close to real life subjects. But his original run had none of that. Instead, he fought abominable snowman and psychic humans from the future.

Superhero stories need to be fantastical but they don't work unless they are also relatable. And considering the first issue of Black Panther had Aladdin, Merlin, and the Loch Ness monster (I wish I was kidding), it was impossible for readers to take it seriously.

After a steady decline in sales, the series was finished after a year.
