10 Greatest Batman Comics Of The 21st Century
4. Batman And Robin: Reborn
Following the events of Batman RIP, Final Crisis, and Battle for the Cowl, Dick Grayson takes over as Batman with Damian Wayne as Robin. As Grayson had nearly as long of a comics career as Batman, it was fitting to have him step up and be put in the spotlight.
In all of Grant Morrison's run on Batman, it's when he introduced a new Batman that he reached his highpoint. Having the dynamic of Batman and Robin reversed helps make this arc memorable. Instead of having a brooding Batman and cheerful Robin, the opposite is presented.
Having Jason Todd become the villain and taking away any ambiguity around his role also felt fitting. For years writers had been pushing him towards full villainy, and it was time to set him up as Dick's antagonist. Having two former Robins in conflict will always be an interesting story.
Frank Quitely, who had previously worked with Morrison on All Star Superman and New X-Men, on art really helped set the tone for the initial run on the book. This run on Batman shows that not everything with the character has to always be dour.
