10 Greatest Marvel Comics Of The 21st Century

6. Guardians Of The Galaxy (2008)

Planet Hulk
Marvel Comics

If you enjoyed the film version of the Guardians of the Galaxy, you'll love this comic. This revival of the Guardians of the Galaxy acted as inspiration for the film.

The original comic run of Guardians of the Galaxy focused on characters beyond the year 3000, but this reincarnation of the team puts it in the current day Marvel Universe, which greatly adds to its appeal. It also makes the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe accessible to new readers, something that creators always struggled in making a jumping on point for until this run.

When the series came out, it was a bit of a sleeper hit, but those who picked it up loved the few years this comic was out. This run is criminally brief, but when the 2014 movie was reintroduced the characters triumphantly returned to comic pages.

With the exception of a poorly conceived brief crossover with the Secret Invasion storyline, the Guardians run stands on its own. The book does not go so deeply in Marvel's cosmic lore that it's inaccessible for new readers, but instead chooses to focus on the main characters.
