10 Greatest Moments From Jason Aaron's Thor

1. The God Butcher Defeated

Thor Jason Aaron
Marvel Comics

Rarely has as strong a start to run been seen like God Butcher and God Bomb were. With impeccable artwork from Esad Ribic, and a villain like Gorr the God Butcher, it was hard to not make this number one.

Struggling to defeat an enemy that was hell bent on wiping every last god from existence, even after joining forces with his past and future selves, Thor's defeat of Gorr was such a strong conclusion that had Jason Aaron's run ended with God Bomb, it would still be revered as one of the best runs ever.

It sounds like such a simple idea on paper how Gorr was defeated, give Thor two hammers and his enemy's weapon before blasting him to smithereens, but there was no better way to conclude the first eleven issues of what would be the greatest Thor run in Marvel history.

Aaron did amazing work crafting an enemy with strong and believable motivations that was at times sympathetic, and the fact that he was at times right only made Thor's eventual victory all the more powerful.

Gorr was adamant that gods were a plague upon existence and were underserving of the faith mortals place in them, but Thor is the type of god that always struggles to be worthy of that faith, making him a living embodiment of what Gorr wishes gods to be.

All this happening after Thor himself in effect became what he despised made Gorr's defeat all the more incredible.
