Lex Luthor getting Superman's powers is, conventionally, a recipe for disaster. After all, any villain with equal parts intellect and superpowers is pretty much a major threat to the world as we know it.

Yet, in All-Star Superman #12, this actually works to put Luthor off his villainous ways. Upon gaining Superman's powers, Lex also gains Superman's heightened sense, which serves to show him how pointless his plans are, by showing him the sheer scope of human life he is trying to restrain and control.

It's one of the more unusual ways that a hero has beaten a villain, but it's an especially important one, because it shows us that extreme superpowers have as much potential to fix someone's mindset as they do to corrupt.

Superman has defeated Lex through a whole host of ways over the years, but the most profound way has to be literally showing Lex through his eyes why he will never let his schemes work - and that's because humanity deserves more.
