10 Horror Comics You Must Read If You Love The Walking Dead

4. Marvel Zombies

Before the Walking Dead, there were the Marvel Zombies. Created by Mark Millar during his Ultimate Fantastic Four run, the Marvel Zombie universe got its own spin-off in 2005.

Helmed once again by Robert Kirkman, it imagines an alternate universe where our beloved heroes have been consumed by a zombie virus. With humanity wiped out, all that remains are the Marvel Zombies - still superpowered, and ravenous for more.

This five issue miniseries delivers on the sick promise heralded by the 'Marvel Zombies' title. Namely, all-out war between superhero zombies and the few surviving humans (T'Challa and Magneto, at least for a while). Marvel Zombies is gory, hilarious fun, with Kirkman clearly revelling in this bleak but demented world.

The Marvel Zombies would return for several sequels and spin-offs (including a crossover with The Evil Dead franchise's Ash - who happened to be there from the very start of it all), and can also be seen in their own Disney Plus What If...? episode.
