10 Horror Comics You Must Read If You Love The Walking Dead
5. Redneck
Like zombies, vampires have been around since the dawn of horror. With his Redneck, writer Donny Cates (Something is Killing the Children, Babyteeth) and artist Lisandro Estherren gives vampires a modern twist. The story follows a family of vampires who run a barbecue joint in small town Texas.
After years of living peacefully, coexisting with humans and surviving on cow's blood, the family's peaceful existence is thrown into chaos. When one of their number is murdered, a centuries old feud between vampires and humans is suddenly re-ignited. Think the Hatfields and the McCoys, if one of them were a brood of bloodsucking superpowered immortals.
Like The Walking Dead, this is a gory soap opera at heart, using its tried and tested supernatural elements to tell a story about family, bad blood, and festering resentment.
It's True Blood crossed with The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, doing for Texas and vampires what The Walking Dead did for Atlanta and zombies.
