10 Joker Fates Worse Than Death

2.  Losing Face

Wonder Woman Joker
DC Comics

The Joker was met in Arkham Asylum by a new villain called the Dollmaker. He cut Joker’s face from his skull and the Clown disappeared and was presumed dead by everyone except Batman. The face changed hands. It possibly landed with Duela Dent, although this could have been a fake. Harley thought retrieving the face was so important that she betrayed the Suicide Squad and staged a mass breakout of Belle Reve to get loose and retrieve it.

The Joker resurfaced with his face attached with belts and staples. Joker claimed that his face removal didn’t matter to him but his face began to attract flies and bugs. He gathered the entire Bat-Family in the Batcave with bloody bandages on their faces and each was tied to a chair. The Clown had a Jokerized Alfred place a silver try in front of each. Under each tray were their masked faces, although this turned out to be faked.

Batman broke free and pursued the Joker just as an explosion of Joker Gas went off and caused the Bat-family to begin violently fighting each other. Joker fought violently, trying to use his acid flower, his joy buzzer, and even the crowbar but each was deflected by Batman. Joker made it to the waterfall and dove off with his tattered face flying free.
