There is no denying that Stan Lee was Mr. Marvel and if it hadn't been for him then the MCU as we know it wouldn't exist. Sure, some of the credit has to go to the likes of Kevin Feige and Disney, but without Stan's original vision none of it would have been possible, and this means that he will forever be owed a huge debt by the company that now straddles the world like a colossus.

But back in 2002, Stan decided that they actually owed him a literal debt and sued the company for breach of contract and, what's more, he won.

It seems that during the initial superhero boom of the early 2000s Stan felt that he wasn't getting enough of that sweet, sweet green considering how many of his creations were making the company a truckload of money, so he took them to court.

Marvel failed to honor a stipulation in his contract that stated that he was to be paid 10% of the profits from all film and television productions and it was this that Stan was looking to get paid out. The judge agreed, making Stan Lee a very, very wealthy man in the process.
