10 More X-Men Fates Worse Than Death

Adamantium Bones Ripped Out
Marvel Comics

After Magneto ripped the adamantium from Wolverine's skeleton, it pushed his healing factor to the limit, causing the Canadian superhero to lose his powers. When Sabretooth taunted him about it, Logan snapped and shoved his bone claws into Victor Creed's brain. Because he gave into his animal instinct, Wolverine felt like he was losing his grip on his humanity, which rattled him to his core. He worried that if he became any more feral, he could turn on his friends. Terrified that he was losing all sense of civility, Wolverine left the X-Men and fled into the woods.

When Genesis attempted to bond adamantium to Logan's bones soon after, the Old Canknucklhead assumed he would be back to normal in no time. But after Genesis' device malfunctioned, Wolverine's body and mind reverted to that of a wild beast (and he lost his nose for some reason). After losing his memory and civility before in the Weapon X program, it was heart-wrenching to watch Wolverine regress to the mental state of a savage animal.

Thanks to the assistance of Elektra and Stick, Wolverine stopped himself from regressing fully to a wild state and managed to reclaim his humanity (and his nose).
