10 Most Controversial Superman Comics Of All Time

2. Red/Blue Superman

To spice things up during the 1990s, DC Comics decided to completely change Superman’s powers. After Kal-El was deprived of solar power, he built a containment suit that granted him electronic powers, allowing him to conjure energy bolts and magnetic tractor beams. Supes could also switch his powers off and become a regular human being.

Many fans were unhappy with this change as it was not the same superhero they had followed for years. And this wasn't exactly a crime - DC had tried to do something different, and it didn't work. It was worth a try.

But what really ticked off readers was the fact that the writers refused to change Superman back. Instead, the writers gave Superman MORE powers. He split into two different Superman, one red and one blue.

After both Supermen acted rudely to Lois Lane, she kicked them out. The Supermen then fought each other to decide which of them should be for Lois. That's right, DC made a story that nobody liked - and instead of fixing it, they turned the main character into an unlikable stalker. After the comic sales continued to plummet, Superman reverted to his old self.
