As Ra's Al Ghul prepared to cull the world's population, he took out the Justice League to ensure they didn't interfere with his plans. Although this is a common tactic with supervillains, the League were baffled by how efficiently Ra's managed to overpower them.

He made Aquaman develop a phobia of water, rendering his powers useless. He disabled Green Lantern's ability to use his Power Ring. He exposed Superman to Red Kryptonite, making his abilities go haywire.

How did Ra's know how to eliminate each superhero with such surgical precision? The League eventually learned that Ra's had stolen Batman's dossier that detailed each of his teammates' weaknesses.

So, not only did Batman keep secret contingency plans to take down his so-called friends but Ra's used these same plans to nearly destroy mankind. The group felt like they could no longer trust Batman and so, kicked him out of the Justice League.

Superman convinced him to reveal his secret identity to the team to win back their trust. Batman was embarrassed to have the League see him out of costume, but he agreed to this stipulation, knowing it was the only way for the team to take him back.
