10 Most Ironic Deaths In Comics History

4. Adam Warlock's Death

Injustice Red Robin
Marvel Comics

Adam Warlock is certainly no stranger to death, but that hasn’t in no way stopped him before from returning to the land of the living. In one of these particular instances, he even uses death as an advantage against Thanos, the Mad Titan himself.

Initially, Thanos was an ally of Adam's... or so Adam had thought. Really, Thanos was secretly planning to extinguish all the stars in the universe as a gift to the goddess of Death. When Adam finally does learn the truth, he then rallies together Earth’s mightiest heroes to stop this from happening.

Indeed, they do manage to stop Thanos from succeeding, though done so at the cost of Adam's life. Thanos, upset at being foiled, proceeds then to take his frustration out on the heroes- unaware that Spider-Man and the Thing have been summoned to intervene in this matter.

Once there, Spider-Man accidentally interacts with Adam’s soul gem and releases the soul form of himself- allowing Adam to quickly turn Thanos into stone before anyone can even blink. Ironically, Adam probably wouldn't have been able to take him by surprise, had Thanos not have killed him first. As far as Thanos was concerned, Adam was dead as a doornail, not secretly waiting in the wings.
