5. Nick Sax

Midnighter Bloody
Image Comics / Darick Robertson

Nick Sax is probably the last person you would expect that would ever get an imaginary friend, but desperate times, right?

When Hailey is kidnapped for a child pornography ring, her blue horse imaginary friend Happy races around the city to find the one person who can save her. She explained that her father can save her because, as she describes, he is the fastest, strongest and most fearless person in the whole city.

Unfortunately, that's not who Happy finds. Instead, he finds Nick Sax, a despicable low-life with brain damage who has little to no regard for human life. Once one of the top detectives in the NYPD, now he's left to pulling off hits for the mafia just to pay for his next drink or high. He's also got a wicked bad attitude to boot.

Happy's got a lot to work with. Wanting nothing more than to leave town after a botched job, leaving the kids at the mercy of a pedophile Santa, he does eventually find it in him to rise up to the occasion. Although, not before killing a lot of mobsters and cops along the way.
