Then there's Xavier's opposite number, the supposed Malcolm X to the Professor's Martin Luther King Jr. Magneto has more reason than anybody to mistrust and fear humanity right back, owing to his childhood growing up in a Nazi concentration camp. He's seen enough oppression and murder of minorities in his time. He's not gonna stand by and let the same happen to mutants. Some of the best Magneto stories have been about how similar his tactics begin to get to the Nazis, in a spell of tragic irony. The worst Magneto stories do that without any nuance, so him being straight-up evil doesn't really make any sense based on his motivation. Plus, like, he winds up teaming with the X-Men all the time. At this point, why doesn't he just make his mind up? He's joined the X-Men to try and destroy them, because of amnesia, and because he's just plain got more sympathetic to their worldview umpteen times. The constant flip-flopping is getting a little old. Just let him settle down on one side of the equation, why don't you.
