10 Reasons Why New 52 Batman Was The Best Ever
7. Big Ideas
Despite Scott Snyder’s protests that he just sets out to tell small stories with classic villains (something he’ll finally be able to tackle in the Rebirth title “All-Star Batman”) the series forms an interlocking chain of long arcs, each bigger and more emotional than the last. New 52 Batman has a sweeping hugeness to it, with different story arcs of varying tone and texture.
There’s maybe one issue of breathing room between each arc, but otherwise the series has been a continuous parade of epics— the shaking of Bruce’s confidence in “The Court of Owls,” the queasy horror and romance of “Death of the Family,” the punk update on Batman’s origin in the year-long “Zero Year,” the black valentine of Joker’s “Endgame,” and finally the destruction of Batman and reformation of Bruce Wayne in “Superheavy.” It’s been quite a ride.
