10 Reasons Why X-Men Are Actually Better Than The Avengers

1. They're More Special

Naturally, X-Men and Avengers fans are bound to have their favourite members of each time. For some that might be Cyclops (yes, really), or maybe even Beast. With the Avengers that could Iron Man or Thor, but while Avengers fans are able to take a deep dive into each respective member's world with a readily available solo comic (in most instances), it's rare that the X-Men get the same treatment - unless, of course, their name happens to be Wolverine.

This in turn lends the main X-Men series a certain kind of importance, as in, "this is the only place you'll get to see these characters". They're inseparable from their allies, synonymous more-so than most other superhero teams, and not only does that make the novelty of them branching off on their own more interesting, it also makes the team dynamic more genuine.

The battle between the X-Men and the Avengers is one of fine margins, but the X-Men are superior. Even as someone who prefers the Avengers - or at least the individual components that make up the Avengers - there's just no arguing with what the X-Men have achieved over the years, what they stand for, or how well they're loved despite having been undermined by corporate politics between Disney and Fox in recent years.

They're Marvel's definitive team, even if Earth's Mightiest Heroes have stolen a march over them over the last decade. A few bad movies doesn't change that.

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
