10 Ridiculous Extra Superpowers That Were Phased Out Of The Comics

2. Wolverine’s Hot Claws

For an immortal character, Wolverine sure has died a lot. This tends to last as long as any major comic book death, but a recent example of a death-and-resurrection resulted in a brand-new superpower.

In 2018, after a long stint away from the land of the living, Logan came back to life in ‘Hunt for Wolverine’ by writer Charles Soule and artist David Marquez, with a notable physical difference. Now, whenever his anger built up to the level of berserker rage, which isn’t an infrequent occurrence, his adamantium claws became red-hot, allowing him to tear through obstacles and enemies with an even more fiery passion than usual.

While it made for some pretty metal cover art, the hot claws did nothing to elevate Wolverine’s character, coming across as a cheap gimmick to coincide with his return. And since the claws are an extension of his adamantium skeleton, does that mean the rest of his bones are on fire as well?

The hot claws didn’t last long, disappearing soon after their debut with as little explanation as when they arrived. Wolverine is one of Marvel’s most beloved characters, he doesn’t need these kinds of changes to keep him interesting.
