10 Sci-Fi Movies That Deserve A Sequel

9. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

From one acclaimed director to another, Guillermo del Toro is an imaginative and highly stylised director. The man knows how to craft feelings of wonder, suspense and tension, lacing them into his films with gusto. He tackled superhero territory for the first time with Blade II in 2002.

Two years later and del Toro would dive into the superhero genre further with Hellboy. Blending action, fantasy and sci-fi elements, this live-action adaptation of Mike Mignola's acclaimed comic was met with a solid reception. It may not have been as massive as Spider-Man or Batman at the time, but fans still appreciated it massively.

2008's Hellboy 2 would end up being even better than the first film. In addition to being bright and colourful, the film introduced many memorable characters and fully engaged with the director's unique style. As the third act came in, some breadcrumbs were planted to set up a closing chapter.

Del Toro had everything ready to wrap up his trilogy, but a third Hellboy film never arrived. The Mexican director would put the character behind him to focus on projects like The Hobbit and Pacific Rim. Ron Perlman is still interested in making Hellboy 3, but del Toro firmly said no in 2017.

Either way, you can be certain it would've been better than the lacklustre reboot we got in 2019.
