10 Sci-Fi Movies That Deserve A Sequel

8. Snowpiercer

Bong Joon-ho is one of the finest South Korean filmmakers to have emerged in recent years. While productions like Barking Dogs Never Bite and The Host were impressive in their own ways, it was Snowpiercer that started to get him recognised in the west. Its premise and setting were incredibly unique and engaging.

In the near future, a catastrophic effort to reverse climate change caused the entire planet to freeze over. The lucky survivors boarded the titular train which became the last bastion of humanity. However, this train is far from ideal for many as the carriages are heavily segregated. The rich lounge in luxury towards the front while the tail end languishes in poverty.

The film uses this setting to take a closer look at class divide, poverty, greed, and its damaging effects. As the tail launches an uprising to escape their poverty, the truth behind the train is revealed. Snowpiercer concluded with a rather ambiguous ending, leaving mankind to start over once again.

How does humanity look to rebuild in a frozen hellscape? The dramatic events of the first film's climax need a follow-up. While there was a recent TV series which struck out in a different direction, it hasn't met the high standards of the original movie.
