10 Shocking Times Superheroes Couldn’t Save Someone
4. Young Apocalypse
Trying to save your own worst enemy might sound extremely noble and heroic, but it’s also something easier said than done, especially if you’re a part of a team with the sole purpose to terminate all threats to the peaceful coexistence of mutantkind and humans.
When X-Force discovers that Apocalypse has been reborn, the team quickly sets out to take down En Sabah Nur and his Final Horsemen. As Psylocke moves in for the kill, the sight of a young Apocalypse playing with his toys proves too much for her to handle. So, she confronts her own teammates in order to defend the boy, especially from a vengeful Archangel.
Wolverine takes Betsy’s side, arguing that the kid can be nurtured to become a better person than his predecessor, while Deadpool and Fantomex seem reluctant to pick a side. Eventually Warren discovers that he can’t bring himself to kill the child, so it all seems like a happy ending, with the boy’s life being spared.
That is until Fantomex shoots him in the head. It’s a shocking ending that seems to contradict everything we’ve learned to expect from superheroes.
