10 Stupidest Avengers Of All Time

7. Teen Tony Stark

Comics fans won't need reminding of how traumatic a period the nineties was for the medium, but it's Marvel in particular who suffered the worst.

An era of Liefeldian proportions where everything was cooler, edgier and quite frankly terrible, Marvel were throwing everything at their readers in the hope that at least one thing would stick. This gave way to the dreadful Heroes Reborn event, but even before then there were signs that the company was in dire narrative straits, as well as financial ones.

This was well and truly exemplified in Avengers: The Crossing, a book that revealed that Tony Stark - the Iron Man we all know and lovingly tolerate - had been a double agent of Kang's all along. Tony's loyalty was displaced by the villain's penchant for brainwashing, so the Avengers, devising a particularly convoluted scheme, decided to go back in time to bring the pre-tampered Tony into the present.

Shenanigans would ensue, and the older Stark would actually die, leaving the young Tony to take up the reigns as the main Iron Man in the comics for a good while. He wasn't the real deal though, and with readers having to suffer through yet another painful event in Onslaught in order to get the old Stark back, it's one nobody's in a rush to remember.
