10 Things DC Wants You To Forget About Wonder Woman

2. Most Of Her Origin Stories

To give DC a little credit (which they don't really deserve in that instance), the core of Wonder Woman can be hard to get a handle on. That's why there are so few classic runs on the character, compared to the rest of the DC €œTrinity€ of Batman and Superman: most creative teams struggle to find a way into the character, who doesn't have a classic modus operandi or mission in the same way as The Dark Knight of the Man Of Steel.

Part of that might be down to the fact she doesn't have a classic, immutable origin story, either. In fact Wonder Woman's origins have changed so many times over the decades since her initial introduction that it's hard to keep track now of what the €œofficial€ line is. Originally she was just a badass Amazonian warrior, helped out by her magic lasso and arm bands.

That was retconned to suggest Diana was formed from clay by the Queen of the Amazons and was imbued with the attributes of the Greek and Roman gods by Athena. Then people felt weird about that, and she was an Amazonian woman again, with her powers being blessing from Olympian deities. Most recently she's become the natural born daughter of Hippolyta and Zeus, so an actual demigod €“ who knows who long that'll last.
