9. And The Lasso, Too
DC ComicsBesides the jet, one of the few famous facets of Wonder Woman's character is her lasso. Which, much like the jet, tends to get looked down upon. Oh sure, when Indiana Jones uses on it's enough to make you look bullwhips up online - or at least play around with a bathrobe belt for a half hour - but when it's in the hands of Diana Prince, everybody starts getting all snooty about it. We imagine that's down to the lasso's principal property as sort of prototypical lie detector. Yep, whenever Wonder Woman ensnares a bad guy within its glowing golden ropes, they can't help but tell the truth; which meant that it got shoehorned into every plot to make use of it. When you exist in a fictional world that's full to the brim of actual mindreaders, though, the Lasso of Truth begins to look a bit naff in comparison, a bit surplus to requirements. Which is why it mostly gets used for gags like the one featured in a recent Justice League, seen above. That's because people misunderstand exactly what the lasso can do, including the creative teams who are producing Wonder Woman's stories. Her lasso has a lot of untapped potential, friends. Like many aspects of her character, Diana Prince's lasso has its roots in Greek mythology. Forged by Hephaestus (the Greek god of making stuff) from the golden girdle of Gaea, the Lasso of Truth not only makes anybody tied up in it spill the beans, but it can break powerful mind control, and for a while could serve as its own form of brainwashing, with Wonder Woman getting god-level superheroes like Captain Marvel to do as she commanded. It's also completely infallible and unbreakable, making it one of the most powerful weapons in the DC Universe. Not bad, huh?
