10 Things Marvel Wants You To Forget About Guardians Of The Galaxy
6. Rocket's Weird Back Story
Bradley Cooper's barely-recognisable vocal turn as Rocket, the diminutive furry member of the Guardians Of The Galaxy with a penchant for planet-destroying weapons and a couple of surprisingly moving moments, was a stand-out for many in the movie. He even hints at his weird, convoluted origin story with a couple of lines of dialogue about being "torn apart and put back together over and over again" and some suspect metal bits sticking out of his bare back. We never get the full story, however, but rest assured when we actually do, it'll be pretty different than his early appearances in the comics. Plus they probably can't get the rights to Rocky Raccoon, the Beatles song he's named after. Rocket is, like in the films, an intelligent, anthropomorphic raccoon, expert marksman and master tactician. In the comic books, however, he made his first major appearance in an issue of the Incredible Hulk that saw Rocket teaming up with the jolly green giant and his first mate Wal Russ (a talking walrus), who seems to have gotten the boot in favour of Groot nowadays. Both Rocket and Wal come from the planet Halfworld, where they acted as genetically engineered caretakers for a load of mentally patients. Which is a little bit odd, even for the crazy world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and we guarantee his origin will be a little different on screen.
