3. Shot By Sharon Carter
Civil War, as a crossover, was almost the polar opposite to Secret Wars. It was grim and downbeat where Secret Wars was colourful and fun; it had a heavy-handed political message where its predecessor was just one long toy advert; and consequences of what happened during the Mark Millar and Steve McNiven miniseries were felt for years after. The basic premise of Civil War is that the US government decided all super-people need to be registered with them and work as deputised agents of SHIELD. Iron Man thinks its a good idea to make heroes more accountable; Captain America doesnt think people should be forced to disclose their secret identities and work according to the governments whims. Then they fight a lot. Finally they fight in the middle of New York City, until Captain America realises its not great for the symbol of the country to be fighting against the government, and turns himself in. Just in time for a brainwashed Sharon Carter to shoot him with a sniper rifle from a distance (in Captain America #25, 2007), after which Bucky subbed in as the new Cap for a while.
