10 Times Superheroes Totally Failed‏

5. Rookie Heroes Blow Up School Kids, Spark Civil War

One of the most controversial Marvel crossover events in history saw the company's roster of heroes fight amongst themselves over whether or not they should legally register their powers (and their secret identities) with the government, for the safety of the American people. Heavy-handed political metaphors aside...actually, not aside at all, because the reason for this draconian cracking down on masked vigilantes was the result of an explosion that killed a bunch of people. School kids, specifically. The New Warriors were a team of inexperienced young heroes whose crime-fighting was being documented for a reality TV show (because Mark Millar). They don't reckon on villain Nitro, whose house they break into, escaping their attack by releasing an explosion that decimates several city blocks - including an elementary school - resulting in the deaths of 600 civilians. Whoops.
