10 Most Tragic Deaths In X-Men History

9. Pyro

When Pyro first joined the Brotherhood of Mutants, one of his first missions was to help the group assassinate Senator Robert Kelly, but their assassination attempt was stopped by the X-Men. Pyro€™s time with the Brotherhood was full of many changes including the team at one point joining the U.S. government when they were tired of being hunted as outlaws. His time with the group ended after he was taken prisoner during a mission. Year later, Pyro contracted the Legacy Virus, at which point he left the Brotherhood, and joined a colony full of others who were suffering from the virus. Desperate to find a cure, he turned to crime to finance his treatment, but once his powers started getting out of control, he knew there was nothing that could be done. As a final act of heroism, Pyro sacrificed his life when he saved Senator Kelly€™s life when Mystique and the Brotherhood tried to assassinate him again. It was Pyro€™s sacrifice that forced Kelly to reevaluate his views on mutants, and he eventually became a proponent of mutant rights, although he was later killed by an anti-mutant activist who felt Kelly had betrayed their cause. Like another of the characters on this list, Pyro was just trying to make amends before he died, and saving his life to save someone he used to hate is very noble. Still, it sucks that Pyro was still going to die either way because of the Legacy Virus, and as a further kick in the heart, the man he saved died before he could accomplish everything he wanted to.
