10 Wolverine Moments That Shocked The World
1. Every Horrifying Future - Various
The X-Men, kinda, sorta have a terrifying tendency to always feature in horrifying futures. If it's not a nightmare where Sentinels roam the Earth and Logan has to send Kitty Pryde back in time to change it all, then it's almost certainly a future where Apocalypse has total dominion over the planet.
Sometimes it's even something in between. Basically all roads lead to terror. Not too nice to think about, is it?
The entire idea of the X-Men's obsession with dystopia is currently being addressed in House of X and Powers of X, but potentially the most horrifying version arrived with Old Man Logan. The Mark Millar/Steve McNiven effort gave audiences a glimpse into a potential future lying in wait for the Marvel universe, and not only was it able to give pretty much every other comic dystopia a run for its money, it also managed to depict the most twisted and horrifying moment in Logan's history - the one where he was responsible for the deaths of his own adoptive family.
The revelation that Wolverine was manipulated by Mysterio into massacring the entire X-Mansion is the stuff of pure horror, and pretty much everything that follows backs that up too.
Intimating this series' shock-value even further is the fact it gave audiences Logan, which reduced entire audiences to a tsunami of tears and emotion in its conclusion. It's more than enough to cement it as the character's most shocking moment, and in the modern era of comics, probably his most influential.
