While some have dismissed the Brood as an Alien rip-off (there may be some truth in that to be fair), there's actually a lot more to this alien race than meets the eye. For starters, they're far from mindless beasts, and have an organised society and big plans to use their powers to take over the universe. It was unfortunate for the X-Men then that they actually encountered this lot during their very first trip into outer space! What makes the Brood so deadly is the fact that they reproduce by taking over the body of a unwilling host, and many of the mutant team have fallen victim to them over the years. Oddly enough, a civilised member of the Brood - known as Broo - has become one of the students in the Jean Grey School, though even that loveable character has shown a vicious side which seemingly proves that this race just can't be tamed.
