6. His Death Was Really Weird

Following the events of Civil War, Captain America was gunned down by Crossbones on the steps of a courtroom, a powerful and headline grabbing piece of imagery. However, it was then revealed that his girlfriend Sharon Carter had been brainwashed into delivering the final fatal shots, but the gun she used sent him back through time rather than actually killing him. Pulling back the curtain even more, this was all so the Red Skull could retrieve his body and take it for himself, and what followed was a mental battle between the two which saw the one true Steve Rogers return. As comic book deaths go, this was really weird, but it actually worked out pretty well.
